Cyviz Featured in AV Tech Magazine Inavate

Realistic simulation is changing how we learn, moving beyond traditional lectures to create immersive, hands-on experiences. A great example of this innovation is featured in a recent article from Inavate, which highlights Cyviz’s partnership with IBM on their cybersecurity campus program.

This program tackles the challenge of preparing students for real-world cyber threats by building advanced training environments. These aren’t typical classrooms; they are fully operational control centers equipped with sophisticated technology. Each student is assigned a specific role, participating in scenarios that blend role-playing with industry-standard AV technology. This allows them to combat viruses, malware, and ransomware in high-pressure situations without any real-world risks.

Cyviz’s technology is at the heart of this experience. It integrates simulated news broadcasts and live cybersecurity dashboards that display active threat scenarios. The system even includes a controlled data center where trainers can deploy viruses for students to detect and neutralize. To further enhance situational awareness, the system introduces “noise” — simulated distractions that students must identify and filter out, sharpening their decision-making skills in a realistic setting.

Why Hands-on Experience is Crucial

According to Peter Stewart, EVP at Cyviz, this kind of training is essential for the next generation of students, including Gen Z and Gen Alpha. “They need to learn in a different way,” he told Inavate. “If you have an environment where you have to actively participate, they will react to it in real time.” This contrasts sharply with passive learning methods like lectures and tests, which don’t prepare students for the demands of a fast-paced, high-stakes career.

This program was inspired by IBM’s previous work running similar hacking simulations for corporate executives. Recognizing a significant skills gap between what universities offered and what the market needed, IBM partnered with the White House to expand this effective training model to university students. With Cyviz providing the necessary AV technology, these advanced campuses have been established across the U.S., Canada, and Italy.

This collaboration between Cyviz and IBM demonstrates how innovative technology can make training more engaging and impactful, effectively preparing students for the careers of tomorrow.
